Yousef Bushehri is a PhD student focusing on how the design of space affects human health. Join us at his interactive two part series to learn about accessibility and how to apply it in your design.
The first part of the Accessibility in Design Interactive Lecture and Workshop will go over how to define accessibility and access, as well as a brief history of it (as it related to the design world). Established accessibility design guidelines and standards will be reviewed, examining what they actually mean. Additionally the role of the built environment (and specific elements of it) will be discussed as key players in increasing or decreasing accessibility. Yousef will share a selection of his projects that examined accessibility in unconventional ways by looking at unconventional elements of the built environment.
For part 2 of the series, participants (that are willing) will be asked to bring in studio projects that they completed in previous semesters, to collectively workshop design strategies that would improve the project’s level of accessibility. This will be a hands-on, interactive, and collaborative session. Think of the traditional idea of “design charette”
